Future Direction

From Freedom Buyer

This page can be used to suggest and discuss ideas for the future direction of this project. If anyone decides that a particular idea should be acted upon now, they can suggest a policy change on the Policies page.

[edit] Suggestions

  • Initially, the copyright holder for a work to be liberated should usually just be paid to remove the restrictions on the work, for simplicity. However, with later campaigns, they could be paid to transfer the copyright to another organisation, such as the Free Software Foundation (depending on the type of work). This would ensure that any freedom-preserving restrictions on the work could be well enforced, and that any other legal issues could be easily dealt with.
  • At the moment, we only target works which have already been released under restrictive terms. However, if the system is successful, the project could be extended in the future to raise funds to pay authors and artists to release new free (as in freedom) works. The wiki format would possibly be less appropriate for this.
  • The project could also possibly be extended in the future to liberate ideas and inventions from patent restrictions.
